Hennything goes?

Can you mix the smooth cognac with anything? Hennessy offers a quiz on their website, www.hennesy.com, where you can discover a few mixed drink recipes just for you!

I tried Hennessy for the first time over the holidays. Shocker! I know. I don't know what's wrong with me or how I managed to get through the last seven years without even a taste of cognac, but somehow, I did.

please oh please, can I get the Henny?

I was visiting my dad over the break and he sent me and my sister to the liquor store to grab a bottle of whiskey. Before we left, he gave me some money and I unabashedly asked if I could pick up some Hennessy. I'm not sure why I randomly thought of the liquor having never tried it or purchased it before, but it was calling my name. Dad told me I could get one of the small bottles to try. Excited, my sister and I were off!

I had never been to the liquor store near my dad's house, but once I got inside it was like I was a kid in a candy store. There were so many options! I had to stay on track though. Bottle of whiskey for dad, small bottle of Hennessy for me. I grabbed the two, went to the counter and paid, and then headed back to the house.

Once we got back to the house, I gave my dad his change and, like the good daughter I am, I poured him a drink. When I returned to the kitchen, I pulled the magic juice out of the brown paper bag and twisted off the top. I grew more excited with each click, click, click of it coming unlatched. I've learned the larger bottles tend to have a cork top, but the small shot sizes come with the twist.

Get in my belly!

I got the lid off and put my nose close to the rim. The aroma of the Hennessy was already winning me over. I brought the bottle to my lips and tilted my head back. Once the amber liquid made it's way into my tummy, I remember feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. A smile formed on my lips and ooooweeee I had never been more in love. #hennessyforthewin

Last Friday, after a long week at work . . . and I mean LONG . . . I decided I was going to the liquor store near my house to pick up my own bottle of Hennessy. The big bottle.

I hadn't had any since that day at my pop's house and that tiny thing was long gone. I had tried a couple of times to grab a bottle once I got back in town from the holidays, but my go-to liquor store was trippin'. I went twice and they were out and the third time they decided to close early. I'm still scratching my head on that one.

Anyway, I drove to the getting place after work and what before my wondering eyes did appear? Finally! Bottles upon bottles of Hennessy. I went right for them, grabbed a bottle, and went to the register.

My roommate was going out of town for the weekend and I had no plans for the upcoming two days. I mean, #superbowlLIII was on Sunday, but I didn't have set plans yet. I just knew that my Friday and Saturday nights were free and clear. Time to do some maxing and relaxing. What does the maxing in 'maxing and relaxing' even mean? I'm really curious. Comment below!

I decided I wanted to be fancy, so I looked up online to see what types of drinks I could make with Hennessy. Low and behold, their website had a page dedicated to delicious cocktails. That's when I discovered the quiz. It starts off by asking questions like "where will you be enjoying your cocktail?" and trust me, you won't feel bad for being a lame and answering that you'll be at home, in your pj's, watching reruns of Law and Order: SVU. There's a few more questions after that, but I don't want to ruin the questionnaire for you.

My results yielded four yummy drinks: the Brandy Cocktail; the Blood Orange Bitters; the Aristocrat; and the Apple Shrub. Along with the names of the drinks, you'll learn in what season the drinks work best, as well as, the most important thing: the recipe!

With my results in hand, I read over the recipes and decided I wanted to make the Aristocrat. Though it stated the cocktail was more for Spring, it looked like the easiest to make and required the least amount of ingredients.

The Recipe (courtesy of Hennessy at https://www.hennessy.com/us/cocktails/aristocrat/):

1.5 oz Hennessy V.S.

1 oz Lillet Blanc

Top with ginger ale

Build in a rocks glass with fresh ice, garnish with lemon twist.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find Lillet Blanc in my local liquor or grocery store, so I had to improvise. I looked online for what was in Lillet Blanc and researched a wine that contained similar flavors. I went for a sauvignon blanc from Cupcake.

I decided to go with an orange twist instead of a lemon twist. I had never made a twist before and I was so proud of myself, I put two in my glass!

I'm not sure how similar my concoction was to the original, but it was great nonetheless. The slightly sweet flavors from the cognac and wine, paired with the spice from the ginger, and citrus from the orange, was a menage a trois of sweet, spice, and citrus made in the sky.

I can't wait to try the other three recipes my quiz gifted me with. Highly recommend going to visit the website and see what your results are! Until then, remember #hennythinggoes
